The very first Formula 1 British Grand Prix took place at Silverstone in 1950 on a track marked out with straw bales and large oil drums. An old London double-decker bus acted as the control tower and the pits were made from scaffolding and canvas. The British Grand Prix is very different at today`s modern Silverstone track which always seems to hold an exciting race.
Over the past two Silverstone has received a major facelift so that it can stage the Moto GP and Formula 1 races. There is no doubt that the British circuit ranks with the best in the World with easy access by freeway. The circuit has an arena section and new pit complex, yet it has retained its high speed reputation that has made Silverstone such an icon.
This part of England is the home of British Formula 1 with more than half of the current teams within an hour`s drive of each other. You will go to see an F1 team`s race shop, the Heritage Museum and the Williams Grand Prix Technical Center during the one day extravaganza of Formula One visits. Join us in 2011 for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone.
